Mounting pressures facing Carroll ISD's budget have spurred several to run for CISD's Board of Trustees election in May

Increasingbrfinancial pressures on the Carroll ISD budget has been cited by three of thebrfour candidates who filed for Places 6 and 7 on the CISD Trustee Board. IncumbentsbrJohn Thane (Place 6) and Sherri Williams (Place 7) are not seeking re-electionbron Saturday, May 11.
CandidatesbrSam Torolopoulos and Matt Kormann are vying for Place 6 while Chris Archer andbrJames M. Palazzo have filed for Place 7.
Place 6: With a background in tax accounting, Candidate Sam Torolopouloshas served on the district’s budget and finance committee. He plans to focus onbrfinancial stability for CISD and has said the budge is a long-term issue facingbrthe district. Likewise, Candidate Matt Kormann has served on the budget andbrfinance committee for CISD and also advocates fiscal responsibility along withbrstudent safety and collaboration between city and school officials.
Place 7:Candidate Chris Archer’s is campaigning on the mantra “Kids First.”brHe asserts that a well-rounded education including academics, arts andbrathletics is essential for today’s students. Increasing non-Robin Hood revenuebropportunities and cost saving for the district is something Archer feels he canbrcontribute to with his business background. As of this writing, no informationbrwas available on Candidate James M. Palazzo.
ThebrSouthlake City Council also had three openings in this election season andbrafter the filing period closed on March 1; all three seats were unopposed whichbrformally cancelled the election. Places 3, 4 and 5 have now been filled withbrthe following representation:
Place 3 – Mayor Pro Tem Brandon Bledsoe will return to serve Southlake inbrhis second term on the council. He has previously served on the Planning &brZoning Commission, been a former chair of SPIN (Southlake Program for thebrInvolvement of Neighborhoods) and has a background in professional real-estatebrbanking.
Place 4: New councilman Randy Williamson has served on the Parks &brRecreation Board, SPIN and as Planning and Zoning Commissioner along withbrcoaching in a variety of Southlake youth programs. He adheres to a philosophybrof fiscal responsibility, which translates to living within our fiscal meansbrand not raising taxes.
Place 5: Having served two consecutive terms and stepping down due tobrterm limits, veteran councilwoman Laura Hill returns to the City Council. Thebrco-founder of both SPARK (Students and Parents Against Risks to Kids) and SASObr(Scholars and Athletes Serving Others) has also recently joined the safety taskbrforce created by Mayor John Terrell.
