Call A Ride of Southlake, or CARS, founded in 2000 by a group of caring, local citizens, is looking for volunteers. The organization was founded with a concern about maintaining means of transportation and a level of independence for senior citizens and disabled adults residing in Southlake.
A Volunteer Roundup is scheduled for Friday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CARS - Call A Ride of Southlake office, located inside the Department of Public Safety building, 2100 W. Southlake Blvd. The organization is offering refreshments and snacks, in addition to information from board members and volunteer drivers about CARS. Volunteer driving opportunities are available.
"The volunteering process is fairly simple one," said Lisa Adam.
CARS provides transportation for medical appointments, up to 25 miles. They also provide transportation for social and personal purposes, many of our riders enjoy socializing at the Southlake Senior Activity Center and attending the fun-filled outings they arrange on a monthly basis.
"Sometimes our riders just need to do some shopping, banking or get a hair cut," Adam said.
The nonprofit also gladly accepts tax-deductible donations. It is partially funded by the city, donations from several local businesses, charitable foundations and individuals.
"Our once, small community has grown tremendously since 2000 and the need for transportation has also grown as many grandparents continue join their children and grandchildren here in Southlake," Adam said. "We welcome everyone to stop by our Volunteer Roundup to learn more about our organization and the volunteer opportunities with CARS."

"Remember, someone famous said, 'Many hands make light work,'" Adam concluded.
