The City of Southlake has named Mr. Stephen Mylett as its new Police Chief. Mylett currently serves as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Corpus Christi Police Department.
"Mr. Mylett represents the type of police leadership that will only enhance Southlake's commitment to safety and security," said Southlake DPS Director Jim Blagg. "His commitment to honor and integrity in his personal as well as professional life is just part of the many reasons why he is now embracing a new opportunity here in Southlake."
"I am proud to become part of Southlake's tradition," said Mylett. "The City's strategic plan, specifically in law enforcement, is a rich design for achievement in safety and security. I look forward to helping the City Council, and my officers, achieve those goals."
"Before the interview process even started we spoke with many of our Police officers about what they wanted in a Chief," said Southlake City Manager Shana Yelverton. "A profile was developed, and we feel that Mr. Mylett not only meets but exceeds our expectations."
Mylett started his policing career in the United States Air Force. He has been with the Corpus Christi Police Department for more than 21 years with responsibilities that included:
· Police Officer (Patrol)
· Police Lieutenant (Patrol);
· Police Captain (Inspections);
· Police Commander (Office of Accountability);
· Assistant Chief of Police (Operations Bureau)
Mylett is a graduate of Midwestern State University with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He is scheduled to graduate with his master's degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management in the spring of 2012. He has earned a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Instructors Certificate and has more than 3000 hours of TCLEOSE certified training. He has also received manager's training from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and has taken the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association (TTPOA) SWAT command course.
Mylett's employment with the City is a conditional offer. He is scheduled to start in Southlake by late November after completing several pre-employment tests and screenings. His base salary will be $123,000 a year.
