Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a Festival of Lights akin to Christmas in the U.S. and is the most important holiday of the year in India. The annual festival will once again be put on by the Southlake Foundation and will be held at the Rustin Pavilion in Southlake Town Square this Saturday, Oct. 22.
Featuring food vendors, crafts and cultural performances celebrating Indian culture, DiwaliFest has become a huge hit in Southlake. The celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. and also includes a dance festival, fashion show and various programs put on by Carroll ISD students. You won’t want to miss the lighting of the ceremonial Diya (lamp) at 7 p.m., which highlights the evening’s activities that also includes an awe-inspiring fireworks display.
