On Saturday, Carroll CrossbrCountry hosted the 13th annual Southlake Invitational beneath bluebrskies at Bob Jones Park. The event has become one of Texas' premiere races,brbringing teams from around the state as well as California, Oklahoma andbrLouisiana. Some of Carroll's top boys and girls had a scheduled week off andbrdid not compete. Varsity girls took 10th place; varsity boys took 12th.
“We would like to thank all of our volunteers and parents for helping usbrput on the Southlake Carroll XC Invite,” said Carroll Cross Country headbrcoach Justin Leonard via press release. “We arebrproud of the way our kids competed in the races. We were able to give ourbryounger runners an opportunity to run in the varsity races so they could gainbrsome much-needed experience. We are looking forward to the rest of thebrseason.”
The varsity girls werebrled by Junior Shreya Veeravelli coming in 46th overall (19:29), nextbrwas Sophomore Katherine McElaney in 55th (19:40), then Juniors MadalynbrWardin in 58th (19:47), Audrey Kwentus in 66th (19:53)brand rounding out the top 5 was Junior Sarah Creech in 71st (19:56). Therebrwere a total of 253 varsity girls running.
The varsity boys teambrtook 12th, led by Junior Nick Arriaza in 64th with a timebrof 16.33, followed by Senior Chris Duffy, 74th (16:41), JuniorbrDuncan Brown, 84th (16:46), Sophmore Tim McElaney, 88thbr(16:48), and Junior Bradley Heidebrecht taking 102nd place (16:58) tobrcomplete the top five Carroll runners. There were 295 varsity boys competing.
The JV girls team was ledbrby Caitlyn Midkiff finishing in seventh place overall with a time of 20:30. Leadingbrfor the JV boys was Brett Gilley finishing 29th overall (17:44). Therebrwere 379 girls competing and 516 boys in the JV races.
On Saturday, Septemberbr16, the Carroll Cross Country varsity teams will compete at the Woodbridge XCbrClassic in Irvine, California.
