Febuary's Letter from the Editor
Perhaps no place inbrthe country is changing as fast as the state of Texas. Austin, Houston andbrDallas took the top three spots in this past year’s list of the fastest growingbrcities as published by Forbes. Newbrhome developments, emergent retail and rampant freeway expansions have changedbrour sleepy suburban homes at a pace that — in its own right — is of nationalbrsignificance.
However, brtaking advantage of so many growth opportunities comes with its share ofbrchallenges. Whether you are dealing with things as common as traffic congestionbror as great as your life's purpose, persistence in overcoming obstacles can bebrthe driving force behind any path to a better future.
This month, bras we step boldly into a new year, we feature the emotionally inspiring lifebrstory of David Rothbart. As a young boy, he overcame the effects of a severelybrbroken home to forge his path to becoming a loving husband, father and abrnationally renowned neurosurgeon. As a young adult, not only did he embracebrchange, but David also sought out his life's obstacles so that he couldbrovercome them one by one and build his own bright future.
The futurebris also bright for senior Southlake Carroll student, Drew Brown. ThebrAll-District placekicker and soon-to-be Nebraska Cornhusker is literallybrfollowing in the footsteps of his older brother, Kris, a 1995 Southlake Carrollbrgrad who also enjoyed kicking success at Nebraska before embarking on a 12-yearbrNFL career predominantly with the Houston Texans.
What thebrfuture holds for David Rothbart, Drew Brown or any one of us can certainly bebrdetermined by our ability to embrace change in ourselves. I wish you success inbrall of your endeavors in 2014.
