With temperatures reaching as low as 10 degrees in the coming week, DFW residents will surely bundle up and turn up the heat to keep themselves from turning into Jack Frost. If you’re in need of a few pointers to prepare for the freezing weather, here are five tips to get yourself winter-read courtesy of the city of Southlake.
1. Be sure to keep your cabinet doors under your faucet open. It allows the heat to get in and keep the pipes at room temperature.
2. Put a cover on your outdoor faucets. If you don’t have a faucet cover, a hand towel or duct tape can be a suitable replacement.
3. Turn your faucets to drip slightly and shut off your sprinkler system.
4. Cover sensitive outdoor plants and bring your pets inside.
5. If you turn on your car or generator for warmth, open your garage doors so the fumes don’t circulate inside the house.
