While the holiday season is full of sparkling lights and shiny presents, it’s also a great time to give back to local nonprofits. For those that have charitable hearts but don’t know where to start, we have you covered. Here are a few organizations that could use a little extra love this time of year.
Christmas is for Children
Christmas is for Children is collecting food items this holiday season. Many Southlake businesses are joining forces to collect plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly to donate to the cause. You can bring your favorite jar to Bill Tait - State Farm, Scratch Kitchen, Darnell Dentistry; Southlake’s Earthwise Pet Supply, Computer CPR, The Bar Method - Southlake or Highpoint Real Estate Associates from November 12 to December 12.
GRACE
GRACE’s annual Christmas Cottage makes more than 2,700 North Texas children and parents' holidays happier each year. That’s thanks to the support of the local community. You can participate by donating new unwrapped toys for children of all ages, gift cards for teen gifts and new small appliances or dish sets for family gifts. Locals can also volunteer to work a shift at the Christmas Cottage and help clients shop for their gifts.
Stepping Stones Foundation
As you clean out your family’s closets this season, put aside your gently used shoes and coats. These items can make a huge difference in local kids’ lives. Stepping Stones Foundation has put out a statement that they have an urgent need for shoe and coat donations for at least 60 children. They are collecting shoes in sizes ranging from kid size 1 to adult size 12. Donations can be dropped off at their boutique in Keller.
Taste Community Restaurant
In our November issue, we learned more about Texas’ only nonprofit pay-what-you-can café, Taste Community Restaurant. While the best way to be a part of their fight against hunger is to dine in and pay more than you typically would for a meal, we also provided a quick guide on different ways to give back through the restaurant. Whether you are interested in volunteering or shopping their Amazon wish list, there’s a way you can make a difference.
The Gatehouse
The Grapevine community for women and children leaving a crisis is already planning for 2019. To help them set up their various apartments, they are asking those who wish to give back to shop their Amazon wish list. It is full of essentials like bed sheets, wash clothes and vacuums that will be dispersed among their residents. You can also make The Gatehouse your charity of choice when doing your holiday online shopping on Smile.Amazon.com.
