Heart disease: It's thebrNo. 1 killer of Americans. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southlake doesn'tbrwant the community to be in the dark about it. It's hosting, in partnershipbrwith the American Heart Association (AHA), the City of Southlake and otherbrlocal businesses and community organizations, the 3rd Annual StayingbrAlive in Southlake event.
The free educational eventbrwill take place at The Marq on February 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The goal is to raise awareness about heart disease and preventative measures. Stop by forbractivities including hands-only CPR training from staff at Texas HealthbrSouthlake, free CPR kits for every family, women's self-defense demonstrations,brZumba classes, health screenings, family exercise ideas and fun giveaways frombrhealth fair vendors.
“As a healthcare providerbrand community partner, we wholeheartedly support this event and our staff willbrbe there throughout the day to help people learn how-to prevent heart disease,”brsaid Traci Bernard, president of Texas Health Southlake, in a press release.br“Knowing how to perform CPR is something everyone should learn, and we wouldbrmuch rather help people prevent heart disease than see them go to an emergencybrroom.”
Staying Alive in Southlake isbropen to the public and no pre-registration is required. Since 2014, more thanbr500 adults and youth received hands-only CPR training from Southlake DPS andbremployees of Texas Health Southlake. In addition, approximately $25,000 hasbrbeen raised for the AHA through corporate sponsorships and private contributionsbrat the event.
