In October 2013, The Carroll Education Foundation donated $74,979.44 to CISD from funds raised in the 2013 Culinary Celebration. These funds went to innovative teachers' grants, all of which were immediately put into action, in our Southlake schools, by excited teachers and students who were ready to learn!
One of these innovative grants is called "Under the Sea" and is sponsored by Southlake Style. This grant enabled teachers to bring hands on learning to our students with special trunks that enhanced our students' understanding of the ocean ecosystem by giving them first-hand experiences of the creatures they studied. The students were able to use non-traditional tools to learn how baleen whales eat and evolved, for example. The students also studied sands from all over the world with traditional tools such as microscopes. Students used books in their trunks, combined with the technological resources in our schools and the animal figures in their trunks to pursue a research project on one of the animals they learned so much about.
Help us bring another innovative grant to CISD and attend the upcoming Culinary Celebration 2014! This year's event will be at the Southlake Hilton on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 6-10 p.m. The event will include a live auction, a silent auction, featured chefs from across the metroplex, a wine pull, a jewelry pull and much more. This year's event is called Peace, Love, Dragons and will have a 60s theme! Come dressed in costume and be entered into a costume contest! We hope to see you there in support of our teachers and students.
