Turning yourbrpassion into a business is a feat only few accomplish, and Steve and AlexisbrSchulze are certainly among those few. Avid juicers with a great enthusiasm forbrhealthy living, the California couple opened their first Nékter Juice Bar inbrCosta Mesa in 2011. Within days, the line was continually wrapped around thebrblock, and the Schulzes knew they had created something special. The successfulbrfranchise now operates 21 other California locations, including Laguna Beach,brSanta Monica and Irvine, in addition to two Arizona stores and one in Dallas' SniderbrPlaza. This past March, Nékter opened in Southlake, and it's quickly gained abrhealth-conscious following.
The best thing about Nékter is itsbrhealthy menu. All juices, smoothies and Açaí bowlsbrare made from 100 percent organic, vegan ingredients sourced in Texas andbrCalifornia. All recipes originated in Alexis Schulze's kitchen.
“I usedbrmy friends and family as guinea pigs,” she says. “Even my kids helped me makebrthe Orange Crush! It was fun but very messy. As for the names — that wasbractually the difficult part. I'm a little silly, so they have a little of thatbrpersonality in there.”
Accordingbrto Jim Ballard, vice president of the Texas region and Steve Schulze'sbrbrother-in-law, the most popular smoothie is the Pink Flamingo. A combinationbrof pitaya, brpineapple, strawberries, coconut water and a splash of agave, the drink transforms into the most vibrantbrmagenta hue when blended on ice. Another customer favorite is the ChocolatebrDream smoothie, a delicious mix of house-made cashew nut milk, cacao, carob, brdates, avocado and a dash of agave. Juices like the signature Greenie (parsley, brspinach, kale, celery, cucumber, lemon and apple) and the Toxin Flush (parsley, brspinach, apples, lemon and ginger) are packed with nutrient-rich vegetablesbrthat help rid the body of toxins. To prepare the drinks, the 14-person Southlakebrstaff blends the veggies and other nutritious ingredients in top-of-the-linebrZumex juicers, which are manufactured in Spain and valued at $2,500 apiece.
Nékter also carries twobrcleanses, classic and advanced, which are offered in one-, two-, three- andbrfive-day packages. Designed to allow the body to re-set, the classic cleansebrconsists of six drinks with individual benefits like detoxifying antibodies andbrclearing toxins from the colon. The advanced is for the, well, more advancedbrjuicer who's not afraid of a more leafy taste. It also consists of six drinks thatbrhelp purify, energize andbrdeliver essential vitamins and nutrients to the body. After a well-attendedbrgrand opening celebration on June 20, Nékter is poised to become one of Southlake'sbrmost popular summer hangouts.
