Many people are unaware of polycystic kidney disease, or PKD.brHowever, those who have loved ones battling the illness know first-hand thebrimpact it has on a person's health and wellbeing. This month, help raisebrmoney to find a cure for the detrimental disease.
On October 22, the 13th annual PKD Walk and Great Pumpkin Party will take place in Southlake Town Square. PKD is onebrof the most common, life-threatening genetic kidney diseases affecting thousandsbrof people in America. Parents who have the illness have a 50 percentbrchance of passing it to their children.
Individuals battling PKD develop fluid-filled cysts inbrtheir kidneys, causing the kidney to enlarge to the size of a football. Inbrturn, they have to undergo dialysis or get a kidney transplant.
The annual Walk for PKD, hosted by the PKD foundation, isbra family-oriented and dog friendly event and is crucial component of raisingbrawareness and money to find a cure for the genetic disease. People throughoutbrNorth Texas are currently forming teams, soliciting supporters, sponsors andbrin-kind donations in preparation for the annual walk and run.
Join the North Texas community in a 5k walk and run throughbrthe square, costume contests, children's activities and a raffle for abrchildren's playhouse. Although PKD is winning the fight, with enough support,brawareness and donations, those battling the disease will have a chance tobrfinally enjoy life and live it to the fullest.
