Laura Hill will be running unopposed in this year's mayoral race, which means she will officially continue in her role as the mayor of Southlake for another term.
“I'm very excited that I don't have to campaign for a second term and really looking forward to continuing thebrcouncil's work,” Mayor Hill said. “We have engaged citizens and we have worked hard to make some big quality of life improvements.”
Mayor Hill made city history after her first election by becoming Southlake's first woman mayor. The businesswoman and civic leader stepped into the spotlight and has been making her voice heard ever since. She even found herself included in our 2017 Tastemakers honorees.
“When I ran back in 2015, I don't think I had any idea how much I would enjoy it. I feel like I have taken the position to the next level and really put my stamp on it,” Mayor Hill said. “I want to be the best mayor Southlake has ever had!”
And while she is proud of the work accomplished during her first term, Mayor Hill is looking to continue to make positive changes in the community – like the town trolley.
“The only thing I really wanted to do that still isn't done is a trolley system, but we are getting much closer and actually getting ready to bring in some of our neighboring communities,” Mayor Hill said.
Because she and incumbent Council Place 2 Shawn McCaskill both are the only candidates running in their individual races, they will be declared elected on during the March 6 City Council meeting.
