On Wednesday, April 10, the 18th annual Medal of Honor parade will pass through the city of Southlake as it heads to its final destination in Gainesville, TX. Locals should expect delays on westbound Highway 114 as the 24 veterans and their escort plans to come into Southlake around 5:15 p.m.
The Medal of Honor is “the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States,” according to the Medal of Honor host city website. And Gainesville has hosted this annual celebration since 2001.
These veterans will fly into DFW International Airport and will make their way to Gainesville. To ensure their safe travels, Southlake DPS will be closing the Carroll Avenue Texas turnaround – not the main Carroll bridge – between 4:30 to 5:00 p.m on Wednesday. Police officers, firefighters and citizens will be out ready to greet these brave men and women.
“We will have fire trucks out there with American flags to show our support for these heroes,” Southlake DPS Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore says.
Locals can either come out and support these veterans or just be aware of their journey that ventures through Southlake.
