Jack D. Johnson - Founder of the Dragon Nation
Beloved Southlake Carroll Superintendent Jack D. Johnson passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the age of 85.
Born and raised in Westminster, Texas, Mr. Johnson served two years in the Army during the Korean War before embarking on a lifelong career as an educator. After teaching for several years in his hometown he joined the then Carroll Common School District in 1957.For 30 years Jack Johnson served in Southlake as a teacher, coach, principal and most notably as superintendent.As the longest tenured superintendent in the school's history he watched the school grow from a rural district to one of the most respected public schools in the state if not the country.
For his efforts and many historic achievements Jack D. Johnson was announced as the recipient of Southlake Style's Community Impact Award this past December.Considered by many as the Founder of The Dragon Nation, his award will be accepted and his legacy celebrated at an upcoming ceremony.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Croy and husband, Larry; son, Tommy Johnson and wife, Renee, grandchildren, Jeff and Laura Croy, Mitzi Cararra, Mandi Matlock and Charley Johnson; great-grandchildren, Aiden Isom, Sofia Cararra, Modean Croy, Mary and Jack Matlock.
