The city of Westlake has been awarded Gold level Scenic City Certification joining 20 Texas cities earning a five-year certification frombr2015-2020.
The Scenic City Certification Program, a project of ScenicbrTexas and its statewide partners, recognizes cities with strong scenicbrinfrastructure standards. Cities can apply to the program to have its standardsbrmeasured against model standards of design and development of public roadwaysbrand public spaces. The city is scored on more than 70 criteria, ranging frombrpercentage of park and open space to strong litter enforcement laws. Based onbrthis score, cities may earn Recognized, Bronze, Siler, Gold or PlatinumbrCertification.
“We are appreciative of this recognition,” says WestlakebrTown Manager Tom Brymer. “Westlake has worked hard to develop strong aestheticbrstandards that reflect the unique, natural beauty of our community.”
Westlake was first certified in 2010 with the inauguralbrclass of certified Scenic cities as a gold medal recipient. When recertifying thebrcity, the program commended Westlake's conservation of its natural features,brits underground utility requirement and strict signage guidelines.
Westlake was founded in 1956 and is home to severalbrcorporate campuses, small independent businesses including the internationallybrrecognized Deloitte University campus. It is also home to the esteemed publicbrcharter school Westlake Academy and the Solana Club. Since the city's founding,brWestlake residents have come to expect the very best from their community.
A reception will be held on September 24 at The Grand Hyattbrin San Antonio to present Westlake and the other municipalities with theirbrcertifications.
