The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Jonny Manziel took to hisbrpress conference Wednesday to declare that he is forgoing his junior and seniorbrseasons with Texas A&M to become Johnny Pro Football in the 2014 NationalbrFootball League draft.
Inevitably, Texas A&M knew they were going to havebreventually turn the page and find their next quarterback, but the Aggies aren'tbrstruggling for new talent. There are various options coming down the pipelinebrthat are sure to give head coach Kevin Sumlin something to smile about –brespecially Southlake'sbrown Kenny Hill.
Hill appeared in a handful of games this season -- in truebrfreshman form -- assisting blowout victories. He was 16-of-22 passing for 183bryards and a touchdown. His spotlight moment happened during the Aggiesbr65-28 win over Same Houston State. Hill threw 5-6 for 74 yards and abrtouchdown pass.
In August, Hill competed with Matt Joeckel for the right to backupbrquarterback. The powerhouse is dual-threat with plenty ofbrexperience in spread-style offenses.
The soon-to-be-sophomore is no stranger to leading a team tobrvictory. Hill steered Southlake Carroll to a state championship where he receivedbrthe 5AbrDistrict Most Valuable Player Award. Additionally, Hill was named Gatorade'sbr2012 Texas Player of the Year.
Other prospective Texas A&M quarterbacks include Kyle Allen frombrScottsdale, Ariz. The incoming freshman enrolled for the spring semester and isbramong the top quarterback prospects in the country. Allen was 186-of-272 for 2,535 yards and 29 touchdownsbragainst 10 interceptions his senior year.
Matt Joeckel is also in the running to becomebrthe Aggies new quarterback. He started the season opener against Rice whenbrManziel was suspended for the first half. He went 22-of-37 for 293 yards andbrtwo touchdowns in 2013.
