June 21 is the official start of summer which means school's out and the heat is taking over. Now's the best time to get out and take advantage of the free time you have with your kiddos. But with the scorching temperatures, it's important to find ways to beat the heat. And it's even better if you don't have to truck your kids over to Dallas or Fort Worth to do it. So this summer, treat your family to a day out at one of these fun local indoor attractions.
Epic Waters Indoor Water Park
The newest, year-round waterpark, Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark, opened up in January. And it’s already made a splash as a premium family-friendly destination. The 80,000 square-foot park holds 11 waterslides, a wave pool, a children’s area, a surf simulator and a lazy river. The best part? It is forever 85 degrees in the insulated park grounds. So kids and adults alike can find a new way to let off some steam each time they visit. While the massive complex has a lot going on under its roof, Epic Waters does have a capacity of 1,500. So be sure to pre-purchase tickets online for the day of your trip out to Grand Prairie.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center
Grapevine Mills draws in families from all over eager to try something new. And while a trip over to SEA LIFE Aquarium and Rain Forest Café are bound to be worthwhile, your kids will be begging for another trip out to LEGOLAND Discovery Center. With three rides, a 4D cinema and plenty of build and play zones, there’s loads to explore. Stop by the latest attraction, the Ninjago City Adventure, to adventure through different obstacle course challenges that will test your kids’ ninja skills. Or go behind the scenes on the LEGO Factory Tour to see how these beloved bricks are brought to life.
Summit Gyms Kids Club
Get your kids moving by enrolling them in Summit's Summer Camp this month. Their experts host classes for their young climbing enthusiasts focusing on technique, gear usage and safety – as well as route climbing, bouldering and building strength and endurance. Plus, it’s the perfect way for your kids to pick up some life lessons along the way, such as teamwork, problem solving and communication. The Grapevine fitness studio also hosts yoga and exercise classes for adults, so it’s the perfect opportunity to take time for yourself while watching as your kids pick up new skills.
Dr Pepper Star Center
What better way to get out of the heat than to hit the ice? Euless' Dr Pepper Star Center offers public skating and skate rentals for those looking for a cooler summer activity. Kids and adults alike will love taking a spin around the rink, just like the Dallas Stars do. If you are a fresher skater, be sure to stay in the bucket zone – where beginners can use props to maintain their balance as they glide across the ice. There’s no shame in taking it slow your first time out, and it definitely beats falling down.
Summer Bash at Gaylord Texan
To get that resort feel without the travel, get ready to Splash into Summer! At the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. Hosted in their four-and-a-half indoor space, the summery event will include plenty of family-friendly entertainment. Whether you want to travel back to the Wild West by taking some family old-time western photos or check out Pool-A-Palooza at their 10-acre outdoor pool and lazy river playground – available to registered hotel guests only, there’s plenty of ways to take advantage the extra time that comes with the summer months.
Luv 2 Play Indoor Playground & Café
Make the world your playground at Luv 2 Play Indoor Playground & Café. The new Grapevine location offers interactive fun for kids of all ages. Children ages one to four can crawl or waddle around the Toddler Area full of soft play and sensory play panels. Kids can work with their hands by venturing over to the Build Area featuring a kinetic motion sand table. And your older kids can try out the kiddy rides and video games at the Redemption Games zone. Don’t forget to pack socks for your kids before heading out for fun day out.
