City of Southlake, Adobe
With the city shining bright after high scores in its most recent citizen satisfaction survey, it may come as little surprise that Southlake’s current city council members have run unopposed.
During a council meeting on March 5, it was decided to cancel the May 4 election for the mayor's position, councilmember Place 2 and a special election for council Place 3. The decision was made after no candidates filed in opposition during the filing period from January 17 to February 16.
Shawn McCaskill, the current mayor pro tem and Place 3 councilmember, will step into the role as Southlake’s next mayor, filling the vacancy left by John Huffman, who did not seek re-election to pursue Denton County's District 26 seat for U.S. Congress. McCaskill brings a wealth of experience, serving on the council since 2015 and as mayor pro tem since 2019.
For the council positions, Randy Robbins will fulfill a second term in Place 2 unopposed. The subsequent vacancy in Place 3, left by McCaskill’s transition to the mayor's office, will be filled by Francis Scharli, the recent vice chair of Southlake’s Parks and Recreation board.
