Southlake DPS Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore is at it again – this time he’s motivating locals to be safe while getting his workout in. On February 11, Southlake DPS released its most recent viral video, featuring Uptmore as a “Southlake Policeton” instructor.
Sporting a sweatband and man bun, Uptmore leads social media fans through a scenic ride featuring safety messages. The idea came from Uptmore’s recent investment in a Peloton, and his passion for the spin program.
“Like I'm in the cult. I have an 18-day streak, and my competitive spirit holds me accountable each day to make sure I do it,” Uptmore says.
While the interest for cycling is real, Uptmore’s character he plays during the video is a tribute to the instructors he has taken classes from.
“I had a type of character in mind, kind of a mixture of all of their male instructors, and the man bun (a la "bro bun") seemed necessary for the character,” Uptmore says. “I've been biking 18-days in a row! That means I've watched and studied the instructors nonstop, so I knew where the PSA had to go.”
The entertaining video does accomplish a lot in under three minutes, with multiple messages about how to travel safely through town as well as several cameos from local city officials from both DPS and city council.
“It's the same goal we always have: make something clever, creative and watchable to deliver a safety message — in this case, like six safety messages,” Uptmore says. “I was thrilled the chiefs and some city council members joined the project, as it showed the idea was good enough for them to partake in it.”
As Uptmore says, drive safely through Southlake and “get that bro bun a poppin'.”
