It isn’t just you, Elsa. It’s definitely getting colder in Southlake. In the face of 46-degree weather that will continue to drop as December quickly approaches, Southlake DPS released a weather safety tips video on Friday, Nov. 22, to remind citizens of a few things they can do to stay safe during the snowy season. The video portrays "Frozen's" Elsa (Southlake DPS Corporal Delaney Green) talking to another officer (Officer Ivy Busby) and brooding about the cold weather.
“My mother always told me to educate people about winter,” Green says as the “Frozen” character. “She always told me – make sure you turn your sprinklers off when it's freezing.”
If the video looks a little dark and dreary, that’s because it parodies the trailer for the recently released “Joker” movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the popular Batman villain. Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore says he was captivated by the "Joker" trailer ever since it first released in April. When Southlake Police Chief James Brandon recommended that Brad put something together cautioning the public about winter weather, Brad realized that "Frozen 2" was coming out near the end of November and decided to merge the two box office hits into one concept.
"'Saturday Night Live' ended up doing a similar take on a Joker/Oscar the Grouch spot, and I almost scrapped ours because I didn't want to look like we were copying the idea," Brad says. "But I already had ordered the dress and wig and had written the script and didn't want to waste money, so we went ahead with it."
The Marcus Hedges Trend Orchestra contributed their rendition of the Academy Award-winning song "Let It Go" for the video. You can watch the full video on Southlake DPS’ Facebook or Twitter page.
