Southlake firefighters got a rude awakening at around 3 a.m. on Friday thanks to Southlake DPS Corporal Preston Logan and country rap singer Blanco Brown. But at the very least, it helped them “Git Up” to start the day.
Blanco Brown released a country rap song called “The Git Up” earlier this summer, which “USA Today” calls “the next ‘Old Town Road." After the song’s release, a humorous challenge spread across the internet called “The Git Up Challenge,” where listeners perform their own dance variations of the song.
Southlake DPS, however, had different inspiration for taking on the challenge.
At 3:09 a.m. Friday morning, Logan can be seen dancing the two-step to a stereo blaring the hip-hop country song to full volume. After showing off his stylish swagger, Logan bangs on everyone’s doors, wooing and yelling at them to get up. The groggy, barely-awake firefighters are then seen wandering out of their rooms in sleepy confusion, with one even returning to his room after venturing out into the hallway.
"We never like to just go with the flow like everyone else because then we'd be everyone else. So we planned this alternate style to show good-natured brotherhood between our police and fire,” Southlake DPS Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore says. “It was good for a quick chuckle and a reminder that your Southlake police and fire are basically best friends in keeping all of our fair citizens safe.”
