One Southlake police officer received special recognition during the 2019 Tarrant County Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award Luncheon on July 24. Officer Nikki Lockwood received an Enforcement Hero Award, which honors the dedication to DWI enforcement.
Officer Lockwood always knew that she wanted to give back. For a long time, she thought that meant enrolling in the military. But after the Dallas shooting in 2016, which killed several officers, Lockwood says she felt compelled to join the police and be a part of the changing perception of local law enforcement.
“My goal since becoming a police officer is to serve my community with kindness and humanize police officers,” Officer Lockwood says. “I want people to see my kindness as a reflection of the badge that I wear. I’m inspired everyday to treat people the way I would want to be treated.”
Officer Lockwood has been active in the department since January 2018 when she completed her academy training. Since, she has taken her role and responsibility very seriously.
“I’ve always wanted to be in a position where I can help people,” Officer Lockwood says.
According to MySouthlakeNews.com, the Southlake Police Department made a total of 134 DWI arrests during the 2018 calendar year. Officer Lockwood made 18 percent of those arrests. By staying alert, both on the road and increasing her knowledge on the subject by reading the latest case law about drunk driving, Officer Lockwood is ensuring the entire city is safer.
“This award means a lot to me because it shines a good light on my department. I want people to see myself and my fellow officers doing great things for their city,” Officer Lockwood says. “I work with some of the best police officers out there and my successes reflect their hard work as well. I’m so blessed to work for such a great city and even greater people.”
