The city received some state recognition this week at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) annual conference.
The Southlake DPS's “Bench on the Grinch” video was honored in the 2018 Video – PSA – Marketing Under 60K category. And the Library's “Camp Big Read” program received the Award of Honor for Best Recurring Special Event Under 100K.
SPD made “Bench the Grinch” over the holiday season as part of their Hide, Lock and Take campaign. It was an entertaining way for them to remind the public to keep their belongings safe while shopping in town. And it was one of the first humorous videos produced by the department.
"Being honored for our creativity feels amazing," Southlake Police Department's Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore says. "This video was actually one of the first ones we did where we tried to 'break the mold' of a static shot with an officer just talking or being interviewed. With the success of this one even before the award was announced, we were able to try new things and get even more creative in helping our fair citizens to be educated and safe here in Southlake."
Camp Big Read is the library's program to help draw locals out to their location throughout the summer. They created a camp-like setting including T-shirts, badges and more to get children and parents alike excited about reading.
These are just two of the city measures that help make Southlake the community it is today. And we are thankful for all the hard work these city officials put into making these honorable happenings possible.
