Southlake officials traveled to New York last week and came back with some hardware. On June 6, the city of Southlake was awarded the 2019 Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Silver Anvil Award for the “Most Effective Campaign, $5,000 or Less, Government.”
The award ceremony, which their website states honors those who “meet the highest standards of performance in the profession,” recognized the city’s “Humanize the Badge” campaign, which includes all of their amusing social posts and viral videos. The Southlake DPS Public Information Officer Brad Uptmore says it was an honor to be nominated.
“Our goal was to transition from being less formal and uninviting to a more friendly tone,” Officer Uptmore says. “It’s always the best feeling to be recognized for our hard work, and I couldn’t be more proud of this award and how it showcases our Police and Fire Department’s abilities.”
It wasn’t just Officer Uptmore who traveled out. Police Chief James Brandon and Mayor Laura Hill, as well as other city employees, were also in attendance.
“It was a privilege to represent the Southlake team, and accepting the award all together justified just how hard we work to ensure Southlake is the best and safest city it can be,” Officer Uptmore says.
Officer Uptmore is not only proud of this win but also is proud of the impact the department is able to make on the local community.
“This award reassured me that what we share every day is impacting lives. We have the platform to make a difference, and this honor is just proof of how hard we work,” Officer Uptmore says.
