The Association of Chinese Americans in Southlake, Texas (ACAST) celebrated the Lunar New Year in a big way during the third annual Southlake Spring Festival on Feb. 10.
With over 40 vendor tents and 15 activity tents, over 5,000 attendees indulged in a variety of cultural experiences celebrating the Asian American community. The afternoon started with a “Happy Drums” dance, which featured 30 performers dancing and drumming to their own beat. Attendees enjoyed authentic Korean, Japanese and Chinese street food throughout the day and participated in fun pastimes such as arts and crafts, calligraphy, puzzle-solving, drum-making, puppet shows and sampling various tea blends during a traditional tea ceremony.
The afternoon continued with the arrival of the 8-foot mascot BaoBao the Panda, which heralded the parade filled with drummers and dragon dancers.
“It left a lasting impression celebrating cultural diversity, resilience and community spirit,” planning committee member Crystal Dong says. “With each passing year, the Southlake Spring Festival continues to evolve, fostering bonds that transcend boundaries and enrich the fabric of Southlake’s multicultural tapestry.”
