12-year-old terrier Olivia has many reasons to be wagging her tail. Not only does she enjoy long walks with her owners in Northwood Park, but now she has an entire street named after her.
A chihuahua and rat terrier mix, Olivia has frequented Parkwood Drive often enough to the point where neighbors recognize her and her walker, Eric Karl. But when he found out that commercial businesses would be developed in the area, he proposed changing the street’s name to protect the community from incoming traffic.
“There are two Parkwood Drives — one is known as a residential street, and it has five homes on it. The other Parkwood Drive is in a commercial area,” Eric says according to MySouthlakeNews.com. “Our primary goal is to keep FM 1709 and commercial traffic out of a residential neighborhood and away from our school crossing.”
A year after this issue was brought before the Southlake Program For The Involvement Of Neighborhoods, it was time to think of a name for the street — and Olivia Court ended up being the perfect fit. After the Southlake city council approved the name change in late March, city employees successfully put up the new street sign. Now there are two Olivias located at the crossing, though there’s no replacing the original.
