Johnson Elementary School (JES) 3rd grade teacher Laurie Shorter was recently nominated and selected for the KLTY 94.9 radio station's “Teacher of the Month” program out of hundreds of teachers nominated throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. KLTY has partnered with CareNow to recognize teachers by picking one deserving teacher to receive a bundle of prizes each month from January through May, and then again from August through December.
The radio station came to JES at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17, to present Shorter with the award in front of all the 3rd grade students. In addition to her award and engraved plaque from CareNow, she received an extensive prize package that included items such as a $200 Visa gift card, a $100 McDonald's gift card, a $100 gift card to Lifeway Christian Bookstore and an overnight stay at The Gaylord Texan Resort, just to name a few.
Courtney Harding, a JES parent, nominated Shorter for the award. Here is an excerpt from the nomination email: I would like to nominate Laurie Shorter who is a 3rd grade teacher at Johnson Elementary School in Southlake. Laurie embodies Christ-likeness every day to her students and colleagues through her never-ending selflessness. Laurie wears many hats throughout the day and always does so with an upbeat and positive attitude with her students and staff.
