If you were one of the more than two million people who visited the 2018 State Fair of Texas, you may have noted Big Tex was rocking a new pair of boots. This year, Big Texas was fashioned with a pair of custom Lucchese boots.
Because of all the hype centered on his wardrobe, the State Fair is now calling its fans to help them dress their mascot for next year's run. Starting on November 1 and running until January 31, 2019, locals can submit their own design for his 2019 Lucchese custom boots. Artists and fans can draw, paint or illustrate their designs on these templates provided by the fair. And the winning design will be transformed into a pair of size 96 custom boots worn by Big Tex throughout the 2019 State Fair of Texas.
After reviewing all the submissions, a panel of judges will narrow down the designs to 10 finalists. Then, they are letting the public decide through online voting, from February 18-28, what Big Tex should wear in 2019. The winning design will be announced on March 4.
It's up to you to decide what captures the true spirit of Big Tex, whether that be a design featuring the infamous Fletcher's corn dogs or a few of the Midway games to show off the fair's amenities. For more information or to submit your design, visit the contest's website.
