Dallas-Fort Worth residents can breathe a sign of relief asbranother commuting option is set to open Tuesday, April 1.
The Texas Department of Transportation is opening the TEXpressbrLanes on the DFW Connecter as a tool for managing congestion. The lanes are onbra 4-mile segment of State Highway 114 from just west of SH 26 to east ofbrInternational Parkway — near the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
The TEXpress Lanes will run parallel to fully reconstructedbrmain lanes as well as frontage roads, offering drivers the option to pay abrvariable toll.
However, the connector will open at zero cost for a temporarybrintroductory period, which will allow the traveling public to try the lines, brwhile providing TxDOT an opportunity to continue testing tolling equipment.
“With thousands of people expected to converge on thebrMetroplex next weekend for the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament and DuckbrCommander 500 NASCAR race, we believe this is the perfect time to open this newbrsystem for congestion management,” says James Bass, TxDOT Interim ExecutivebrDirector. “This innovative corridor will provide a choice for commuters drivingbrthrough this vital east-west route as well as reduce congestion and improvebrsafety.”
Later this spring, the incentive period will change andbrtolls will be charged. The single-occupancy passenger vehicle rate will rangebrfrom $0.67 to $1 for the entire segment when using a TollTag from the NorthbrTexas Tollway Authority.
In the future, tolls will fluctuate according to trafficbrvolume and speed rates.
The DFW Connector TEXpress Lanes are part of a $1.1 billionbrproject, which reached substantial completion at the end of 2013.
