Therapeutic Horticulturist Susan Morgan and Calloway Plant Nursery's Ty Poynter will be on hand during a day of planting in the Renewal Garden at Silverado Memory Care Community in Southlake, kicking off the first week of autumn. The garden will include herbs and vegetables for residents' cooking, as well as plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Event participants will also take home a plant, and among the participants will be members of the Girl Scouts of Texas.
Interactive gardening at Silverado is part of Nexus, an evidence-based program for residents with early-stage dementia. Nexus is based on cutting-edge research that suggests there may be ways to delay the onset of dementia and/or slow its progression.
