Walnut Grove Elementary School Enjoys Book Parade
Elementary school students and teachers will be parading in their favorite book costumes through the library and school courtyard at the upcoming 16th Annual Book Character Parade at Walnut Grove Elementary on October 31.
Kindergartners, first graders and second graders will parade at 8:15 a.m. followed by third and fourth graders at 2:00 p.m. Leading the parade will be WGES librarian, Ms. Debra Albertini, who will unveil a new theme for this year's festivities. For the past 15 years, Albertini has dressed as "Cat in the Hat." Students are excited for the surprise and to see what changes are in store.
WGES students look forward to this event every year. "It is a wonderful way to encourage the love of reading with children," said Debra Albertini. "Students take pride in picking their favorite book and deciding which character to represent. The costumes are pretty extraordinary."
The annual book fair, held in conjunction with the Texas Book Festival Week, will be available to students, parents and the community inside the WGES library and features many well-known authors. Funds raised help provide new library needs.
With more than 570 students in grades K-4 and 72 staff members, WGES features many state-of-the-art technologies and is a commended CISD school.
