The town of Westlake was among a dozen local governments and four individuals recognized for outstanding programs and personal contributions to local government by the International City/ County Management Association.
The ICMA Annual Awards Program recognizes creative contributions to professional local government management while demonstrating the value of profession that contributes to the quality of life in cities, town and counties.
The Strategic Leadership and Governance Award was awarded to Westlake for its Strategic Issues-Focused Governance Systems. The award recognizes innovative and successful local government programs that significant impact the government organization's culture or strategic direction.

Council members and Town staff are fully committed to strategic planning in order to sharpen our focus and service delivery efforts for our citizens,” says Ginger Awtry, director of communications and community affairs. “Getting this award is just icing on the cake.”
The Texas City Management Association and ICMA representative Mike Land presented plaques to Westlake Mayor Laura Wheat, Westlake town manager Tom Brymer and assistant town manager Amanda DeGan for their efforts in receiving the award.
An independent, 17-member evaluation panel received more than 132 eligible nominations and chose Westlake as the recipient.
This is Westlake's second award from the ICMA, which is an organization providing technical and management assistance, training and information resources to members of the local community.
In 2012, Westlake received the IMCA Community Stability Award for Westlake Windows: Transparent Government in Focus, which was an initiative applauding the efforts of their innovative community communications program.
