Champions Club held their grand opening on April 6. Since then, residents and non-residents alike have been able to enjoy the 82,000 square foot facility that includes various exercise machines, child watch, an aquatic center and outdoor areas. Membership Services Coordinators Anna Loveless (AL) and Kayla Knaust (KK) work to help guests and members navigate Champions Club and all it has to offer.
KK: I’VE BEEN IN SOUTHLAKE… forever. I’ve worked here [starting] in February of 2011 as a part-timer in the rec division, and then in April of last year, I got promoted full-time, so now I’m here as the membership services coordinator.
AL: CHAMPIONS CLUB IS UNIQUE BECAUSE… it’s another step in the direction of progress that Southlake is headed in. I’ve heard from a lot of residents and a lot of people from around here that Southlake has gone through dramatic changes in the past 10 to 20 years, and I think this is just another step towards that progress that they’re reaching for.
KK: CHAMPIONS CLUB HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR… I think it’s been 20 years. It’s been in the works for a while, so I’m excited that I get to be a part of the opening of it and planning it and getting to showcase the facility.
AL: MY JOB ENTAILS… child watch, birthday parties and rentals of the facility. We both do front desk operations; we both do refunds and membership work. I [also] do resale and point-of-sale items.
KK: CHAMPIONS CLUB MEMBERSHIPS… are based on residency and then based on age and type. And then all of our memberships are also monthly auto-renewal memberships, and they require no contract or joining fees so it’s super flexible for anyone to be able to join. All of our memberships are also an all-inclusive service model, meaning that everything we offer in the facility, with the exception of rentals and some programming and birthday parties, are included in your membership costs. We don’t try to nickel and dime you when you walk in the facility. Really, what you see is what you have access to.
AL: PEOPLE CAN ALSO GET… guest passes along with the membership. If you’re in a family, and if you sign up for a family membership, you would get two per month and they do accrue, so if you don’t use them, you don’t lose them. You also get the plus one option with the family membership, so you can have someone who’s not related to you.
KK: CHAMPIONS CLUB ALSO OFFERS… over 50 group fitness classes a week, like yoga and spin. All of those classes are included in your membership for no additional fee. So to participate in any of those group fitness classes, you just have to be a membership holder, you don’t pay an extra charge to participate in all of those classes.
KK: MY FAVORITE PART OF CHAMPIONS CLUB IS… the outdoor turf and the outdoor terrace area. Any- time anyone walks out there and we open the doors, they’re like, ‘wow.’ It’s just beautiful, and I think that’s probably my favorite part of the facility.
KK: OUR BIGGEST MARKETING TACTIC… has been word-of-mouth, residents being excited about the facility and telling all their friends, and especially the children. There are a lot of teens in here, so we have a lot of parents that come up to the front and are like, ‘Well my daughter said that we have to buy this membership because all her friends are here.’ So it’s been a lot of different marketing that we’ve [been] utilizing, but I’d say word-of-mouth has been probably our strongest one.
AL: IN TERMS OF FEEDBACK… I think a lot of people are still in the ‘awe’ phase because it is new, large and very aesthetically pleasing. Just look at it! It’s pretty from the outside looking in. The amenities [such as] the outdoor turf and cabana spaces, those are just some of the things that make Champions Club even more special.
