Lobster Trap meetsbrthe Parent Trap
Daddy Jack's bringsbrtraditional New England seafood to the family-friendly suburbs of Texas.
“Daddy Jack” Chaplin wasn't born in Texas, but he got here as fastbras he could — and he brought a full list of fresh seafood dishes along withbrhim. The New London, Conn., native and YouTube sensation cultivated a love forbrseafood dishes while helping his grandmother prepare meals at the family's homebrin Nova Scotia. He first cut his Texas teeth in 1993 at the now belovedbrGreenville Avenue location, and in March of this year, his seafood movementbrofficially spread to Southlake.
Situated in the outer-limits of Southlake Town Square, DaddybrJack's renovated Po’ Melvin’s former location, bringing a long-awaited faceliftbrto the shopping center’s North Carroll borders. Upon first entering thebrrestaurant, diner’s walk directly under a lobster trap and are welcomed into abrnewly New England–themed space. The restaurant shed its dank, barbecue past forbra lighter, nautical style that complements the Daddy Jack’s menu. Owner andbrchef Dominick Simonetti has totally revamped the space with wainscoting with seafaringbrfixins’, anchor-themed wall-art, life-preserving mirrors and chandeliers morebrappropriate to a helm rather than a ceiling.
Casual in theme but serious when it comes to seafood, Daddy Jack'sbrspecializes in lobster and chowder. Without hesitation, we ordered a cup ofbrclam chowder ($4) to start off our meal. Hearty chunks of clam and potatobrretained their rightful place in elegant cream broth that didn't overpower withbrflavor. Swiftly moving to the lunch-special lobster roll ($19.95), we enjoyed itsbrgenerous portion of light and fresh lobster salad set atop a gently toastedbrhoagie roll, a joy of both flavor and texture. Complete with a side salad, brchips and a pickle — it is bound to become a staple lunch item for areabrresidents and visitors alike.
Land lovers won't be disappointed, either. The dinner menubrfeatures 12-ounce filets to fulfill the turf half of the surf-and-turf equation, brwhich is to say nothing of tasty grilled-chicken entrees. Desserts are made onbrpremises and include homemade key-lime pie, Italian-style cheesecake and abrflourless chocolate cake. Combined with a full bar offering an impressive listbrof hand-crafted drinks, top-shelf wines and a generous happy hour, Daddy Jack'sbrmakes for a welcome excursion any day of the week.
