Grapevine and Keller musical theater students will be participating in the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta this weekend.
Hosting 125 groups from 28 states, the Junior Theater Festival has featured thousands of musical theater students’ performances for the past 20 years. This weekend will be no different with nine groups from DFW being selected to participate — and three of them are from Grapevine and Keller.
According to a media release, Grapevine’s Ohlook Performing Arts Center was selected for this year’s festival, as well as the Texas Music Theatre Company and Time To Shine Performing Arts in Keller. These groups previously won awards from past festivals, including the Freddie G. Outstanding Performance By An Individual, Outstanding Student Direction and Choreography.
“After 20 years of this festival, we’ve seen what prioritizing the arts can do for individuals, communities and musical theatre itself, and we understand the importance of giving theatre kids the opportunity to be in the company of thousands of other people who care just as much about this art form as they do,” iTheatrics founder and CEO Timothy Allen McDonald says via media release. “These students and teachers aren’t just the future of musical theatre — they are musical theatre.”
