Planning out a full summer for your kids can feel like a full-time job. If you are constantly on the hunt for new attractions in the Metroplex, North Texan author Tui Snider’s latest book might be for you. “100 Things To Do In Dallas Before You Die, 2nd Ed.” explores the potential lurking in the area. She explores everything from family outing destinations to date nights to solo excursions.
“As a travel writer, my motto is, ‘Even home is a travel destination!’ Trouble is, most people are too busy to find these places on their own,” Tui says. “That’s where I come in! I love discovering fun things to do in North Texas, then sharing them with others.”
While other guidebooks might focus on Dallas and Fort Worth alone, Tui explores all the great amenities spread throughout North Texas.
“I did my best to include lesser-known goodies, such as the unique glassware of Decatur, Granbury’s Doll House Museum, and the Tackle Loaner program for families in the DFW area who want to fish but don’t own any equipment,” Tui says. “ I showcase venues that have withstood the test of time, such as the swimming hole at Burger’s Lake and Weatherford’s Malt Shop. Not only are these places more likely to stay in business after publication, but they are also more likely to feature prominently in the memories of those who grew up in North Texas. To me, these are the places that best belong on a bucket list—places deeply woven into personal travel memories created with friends and family.”
Nearby locations featured include Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Roanoke and the dog-friendly DFW Elite Toy Museum in Haltom City, but to learn more about the listed attractions and the author, stop by her book signing and presentation on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Watauga Public Library. Admission is free, and this event is open to the public.
