During the month of October, participatingbrrestaurants in the area will donate some ofbrtheir proceeds to Susan G. Komen and nationalbrbreast cancer research. By simply eating atbrone of these restaurants during the event, eachbrperson can do their part in raising funds andbrawareness for breast cancer.br

Thirteen years ago, I was diagnosed withbrStage 3 breast cancer. It was then I becamebrmore aware of Susan G. Komen. Since thenbrI have participated in various Komen racesbraround the United States.br
What inspired you to get involved withbrDine Out for the Cure?
The Dine Out for the Cure is unique andbrdifferent than the Race for the Cure. It willbrraise more awareness from surroundingbrfamilies and individuals.br
This is the first year for the event inbrSouthlake. What are you most excitedbrabout?
Creating awareness that 75 percent of all funds stay in the greater Ft. Worthbrcommunity. The remaining 25 percent go tobrnational research to find a cure.br
How large of a fundraiser is this forbrKomen?
This is a new endeavor for Komen inbrSouthlake. It was done for one day in Ft. Worth last year, and we are expandingbrin other communities in Tarrant County.

Tell me about your journey to becoming Chairman.
I decided to become involved through a series ofbrconversations with friends. Because I am a survivor andbrit's in my own backyard, I feel honored they asked me.br
What are some of the biggest challenges you'vebrfaced in this role?
One of the biggest challenges is going through the corporatebrchannels to get them to sign on to participate.br
What do you enjoy about leading the charge inbrSouthlake?
I really enjoy meeting other women who have a passion forbrfundraising and leading the cause for Komen.br

It is always great to see your work make a difference locally.br
