Run4Elise has officially rescheduled its 2020 event to next year due to safety concerns from COVID-19.
The event, which was set for August 8, has participants run a 5K to benefit the water safety efforts of the Swim4Elise Foundation. Last year’s event saw about 1,000 people come together at Gateway Church to run the 5K, but attendants looking forward to this year’s event will have to wait until the rescheduled date on May 1, 2021 to run again.
Although Run4Elise has been put on hold, Swim4Elise has still been pushing several initiatives in fighting accidental drownings in the United States. For one thing, it held a Virtual Memorial Run4Elise event from June 20-July 5 where participants logged and recorded their own times. The nonprofit has also provided over 3,000 packets at no cost to 60 daycares that educate children about water safety, according to an email.
“Sadly, fatal drownings have not stopped during the pandemic,” Swim4Elise President Lori Cerami says in an email. “We are always grateful for the community support. The Swim4Elise Foundation will continue to work to share water safety in the community, especially with young children.”
Lori says that all current sponsors and participants who signed up for the 2020 Run4Elise event will be automatically moved to the rescheduled date with no additional fees. To stay up to date on the organization and see how you can support it, visit Swim4Elise.com.
