More than one generation loves Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. With hits going back to their eponymous debut album in 1976 to their 13th studio album, Hypnotic Eye, released in 2014, a band like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers culls fans of classic rock with a blue-collar bent and even those who lean toward a country twang. Their universal appeal connects directly to their longevity—they've played venues around the world for decades, including a Super Bowl halftime show, and they've entertained crowds of over 20,000 fans. Now, they're kicking off their 40th anniversary tour in April, and their second stop on the road will be right here at American Airlines Center. Get your tickets and be prepared for a show full of the hits you love, like “I Won't Back Down,” “American Girl,” “Don't Do Me Like That” and “Refugee.” The anniversary tour will feature original band members Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench and Ron Blair. Drummer Steve Ferrone, the rookie, rounds out the group with 20 years with the band.
Rock legend and former band member with the Eagles, Joe Walsh, will provide the opening set at the April 22 concert. Named by Rolling Stone magazine in 2011 as one of “The Top 100 Guitarists of All Time,” Walsh is known for his guitar solos in the Eagles' hits “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane.” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers together with Joe Walsh will be an unforgettable night! The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available, but going fast!
