After being introduced to the arts as a freshman, Preston Du knew he had found his passion.
“Most people know me as the art nerd,” Preston says. “I’m very obsessed with art.”
Preston has dabbled in all kinds of mediums like oil painting and drawing, with illustration and animation being his favorite art genres. Involved in both the art club and the National Art Honor Society, Preston loves to create his own worlds through drawing, with fictional characters and real-life people as some of his favorite subjects.
“I feel like it’s a dream come true that I’m capable enough to be able to put [worlds, characters and people] on a piece of paper or on my digital tablet,” Preston says.
But his classmates aren’t the only ones who know him for his artistic abilities. Last summer, Preston took second place in the Sister Cities International Youth Art Contest. This past year, he received two gold keys and one silver key for three of his paintings from the 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
With his passion for art still growing, Preston plans to apply to art schools after graduation and aims to focus on illustration and entertainment design.
