Southlake Carroll has no shortage of outstanding athletes, but few are as special as Wyatt Kwentus. A Carroll Dragon since he was in pre-K, Wyatt has always loved sports and participating in outdoor activities with his classmates.
Wyatt has Down syndrome, yet that’s never slowed this well-recognized Special Olympian.
“I was 8 years old when I started playing sports,” Wyatt says. “I loved playing with my team, making friends and meeting all of the cool volunteers every year.”
As a Special Olympics competitor for 10 years, Wyatt is used to racking up medals. Throughout the years, he’s earned 38 gold, silver and bronze awards in a wide range of competitions including basketball, bowling, swimming, track, javelin and equestrian events.
When he’s not on the medal podium, Wyatt also enjoys spending time with the Boy Scout Troop 263, Club Metro, Miracle League and Amy’s Wish With Wings.
While he’s had many great experiences with Carroll ISD, Wyatt’s favorite memory is running in the fourth grade Special Olympics track meet.
“Everyone wore ‘Go Wyatt’ T-shirts and made posters,” Wyatt says. “It was such a good feeling to have all of my friends there.”
Wyatt looks forward to continuing to play sports and spending time with his friends during his senior year. While he doesn’t know what’s after that, he’ll face the world with an abundance of confidence from his time as a Carroll Dragon.
