A local dentist has been honored for her service to our country. Tonya Fuqua, D.D.S., was named the Veteran Of The Year by the Fort Worth District Dental Society, according to a press release.
Fuqua was an active-duty dental officer with the United States Air Force from 1995-1999. She was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and also served as the preventative dentistry office and manpower disaster team chief. Reaching the rank of major before moving into private practice, Tonya's father was a "full-bird colonel, according to a press release.
“My father set a strong example of service and selflessness," Fuqua says via press release. “I am extremely humbled and appreciative to have been able to give back in this honorable way.”
Alongside her private practice work at Fuqua Advanced Dental, Fuqua started the Save A Smile program at Cook Children’s Hospital in 2003, which has provided more than 100,000 dental screenings for at-risk children in Tarrant County.
