Even in retirement, Larry Hughes remains dedicated to the kids of Carroll ISD.
Coaching the Carroll baseball team for 20 years, Larry has seen the district grow from 4A to 6A status. Following in the footsteps of Bob Ledbetter and many other CISD educators in the early days, Larry drove a bus on top of his coaching and teaching duties.
He keeps at it even after his retirement, driving kids around early every morning and late afternoon. He also drives around delivering meals with his wife for Metroport Meals On Wheels. But Carroll is still home to him, just like it was during his baseball days.
“I love it,” Larry says. “I love being around kids. After retiring, I love still having a connection with Carroll.”
