May, that’s what it’s all about in North Texas, as two of PGA’s longest running tournaments tee off for two straight weeks of sportsmanship, talent and tradition.
It begins with the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Fort Worth’s Colonial Country Club May 18-24. Since the first tournament began in 1946, the Invitational at Colonial continues to hold the rank as longest running event on the PGA Tour that is still held on its original site. As one of the PGA’s most prestigious events, the Invitational at Colonial brings together the best of the best in golf—approximately 125 players are invited to play based on past rankings and winnings.
Following the Invitational at the Colonial is the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship May 25-31, held at TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas. The Byron Nelson Championship’s roots trace back to 1944, when golf pro Bryon Nelson won the Texas Victory Open at Lakewood Country Club. Since then, the event has become the 9th longest active tournament on the PGA Tour, and transformed into a place for not only golf lovers, but also the entire family. You’ll discover plenty of family-friendly entertainment in the KidsZone and nightly concerts at the Pavilion After Dark. But it’s not all just fun and games, the Byron Nelson is also the largest PGA Tour fundraiser in North Texas, benefiting the Momentous Institute and its educational and mental health programs that build and repair kids’ social emotional health. Since it’s origination, it has raised more than $137 million.
