The Family Place rededicated its Safe Campus in Dallas earlier this month.
Since February, the Safe Campus has gone through reconstruction to repair extensive damage the campus suffered from Winter Storm Uri. According to a media release, the storm caused pipes to break and freezing water to soak everything in the rooms. The 52 women and 71 children living on the Safe Campus were temporarily relocated to Wilshire Baptist Church and then to extended-stay hotels while they awaited Safe Campus to be renovated.
“This has been a challenging time for The Family Place,” CEO Paige Flink says in a media release. “The outpouring of love and generosity from the community has been incredible. We are so grateful to everyone who donated funds and services to make sure our clients were cared for in the interim and have a beautiful facility to return to that will serve our community for years to come.”
Since opening in 2000, the Safe Campus has become the largest family violence service organization in Texas. The Safe Campus provides 110 emergency shelter beds, 25 transitional housing apartments, a Child Development Center, a K-2 Learning Center, an after-school and summer program, a medical clinic, comprehensive counseling, support and case management services.
