Joe talking with The Gibbonses, another artist featured on "After the Encore"
Have you ever seen a band or musician play and just wonder who’s the person behind the mic? Joe Shaw, Bedford resident and host of DTALKS Podcast, is taking a dive into these creatives’ stories with his new project “After the Encore.” This podcast, which premieres on Friday, August 30, will use its first season (“Volume 1: The Stars At Night”) to take a closer look at Texas-based artists.
Two of his subjects caught out eye in particular because of their local ties: Todd Pipes and Ansley.
Todd Pipes, the lead singer of the ’90s band “Deep Blue Something” showcased on the sixth episode or track, shares how the group’s hit single “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” put their music on the map. After founding the band with his brother at the University of North Texas, the Southlake local saw how one show in Dallas could change a band’s projection.
“We were playing at Trees, and Trees had run an ad on the EDGE. And in the ad, they played a snippet of ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s,’” Pipes says on the show. “So people start calling the EDGE and requesting it.”
Ansley, an indie soul artist originating from Grapevine who is featured on the third track, also sits down with Joe to discuss how she found her voice and what inspires her to perform.
“I really think a lot of my creativity comes from my influences,” Ansley shares on her episode. “I’m a third-generation singer at this point so it’s just been in my family and even before I considered music as a career choice, I was singing every day. It’s just how it’s been my whole life. It’s who I am.”
Tune in to learn more about Todd’s and Ansley’s stories and their thoughts on how to be successful in the industry when the show premieres on Friday. The tracks, powered by Roberts Media Group, can be found on Apple Podcast, or wherever else you listen to your podcasts.
