Cancer Support Community North Texas
The Cancer Support Community North Texas will host its first-ever Red Tie Gala event next weekend at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. They’ve even selected two of their co-chairs for the occasion as well: Westlake Mayor Laura Wheat and her husband Doug.
“Doug and I are so honored to have been asked to co-chair the first Red Tie Gala,” Laura says via press release. “We have such a long history with Cancer Support Community that, in many ways, this feels like a homecoming for us.”
Laura, who has served as mayor of Westlake since 2008, is herself a three-time breast cancer survivor, according to a CSCNT press release. Her husband Doug is likewise a Stage 4 prostate cancer “thriver.” Laura also helped raise the original funds used to create CSCNT in the first place as one of its founding board members.
Co-chairing the event alongside the Wheats are AMN Healthcare Services CEO Susan Salka and her husband Scott.
“This opportunity is extra special in that we get to work side by side with our good friends Susan and Scott Salka,” Laura says via press release. “Together, we are hoping to make a difference in the lives of the many North Texans who are living with cancer.”
The event will recognize the Junior League of Dallas for their extensive support toward CSCNT and its initiatives. Proceeds from the event will go toward emotional support programs provided by the organization at no cost for anyone impacted by cancer across the Metroplex.
“Cancer support is the critical, missing link in cancer care,” CSCNT CEO Michelle Louis says via press release. “We are thrilled to celebrate the importance of what Cancer Support Community North Texas provides thousands of people every year at this landmark event and are grateful for the Wheats and Salkas for their passion for our cause.”
The Red Tie Gala will be from 7–11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, located at 2201 N. Field St. in Dallas. Tickets can be purchased for online at RedTieDallas.org.
