The Carroll Girls and Boys Cross Country teams advanced tobrthe State Championship race after placing 3rd in the boys race and 2ndbrin the girls race. For the 8thbrconsecutive year, the boy’s team has earned a state meet bid, and for the 21stbrconsecutive year, the lady dragons earned a spot in the championship statebrrace. Despite the tough 3-mile course at Mae Simmons Park, known for its steepbrhills and tight turns, the Dragon runners came out strong and persevered.
Head CoachbrJustin Leonard said, “We are excited about ourbrperformance today. Our goal today was tobrpunch our ticket for the state meet and we did that. We are now focused on ourbrmain goal and that is to be at our best on November 4th. We would also like to thank the parents ofbrour athletes, school and community for all of your continued support throughoutbrour season.”
Juan Arcilabrled the boys’ team placing 15th overall with a time of 15:23. Jack Myers was next coming inbr29th place, Connor Rutledge came in right behind in 30th,brfollowed directly by Enzo Mortimer in 31st and Drew Bliss finishedbrout the scoring positions in 35th place. Vishnu Nair (46th) and JacksonbrFelkins (53) also competed. Along with thebrDragon boys’ team (scoring 126 points), El Paso Eastwood (taking 1stbrwith 55 points), Flower Mound (taking 2nd with 76 points) and WyliebrHigh (in 4th with 158 points) will all advance to the ChampionshipbrState Meet.
Leading for the Lady Dragons was Cate Tracht placing 13thbroverall with a time of 17:57. SofiabrSantamaria crossed the line right behind in 14th, followed directlybrby Sarah McCabe in 15th. Nextbrto finish was Angie Riera in 30th, with Kate Reppeto in 35thbrto complete the scoring runners. brCristina Canal (61st) and Lauren Esparza (66th)bralso competed. The girls’ team (placingbr2nd with 67 points) is moving to the state meet along with Keller (placingbr1st with 28 points), Flower Mound (in 3rd with 73brpoints), and Lewisville Hebron (in 4th with 106 points).
