More than 200 volunteers filled over 300 backpacks with school supplies during a back-to-school drive earlier this month.
On Aug. 4, the Association of Chinese Americans Southlake Texas (A-CAST) partnered with DFW WeCare and seven other nonprofits at Central Elementary School in Lewisville for the back-to-school drive. A-CAST volunteers from Carroll High School were responsible for selecting, packing and delivering backpacks full of materials to second graders. After their work was complete, A-CAST’s youth board vice president, Ethan Huang, co-hosted a live cultural performance for both families and kids to enjoy.
Through this collaborative endeavor, DFW WeCare, A-CAST and the seven other nonprofits demonstrated the profound impact people can have when they come together for a cause.
“I am amazed by the outreach and support we have received,” Shawnna Buck, Central Elementary School principal, says. “I had no idea there were so many people willing to be a part of helping our community, supporting our kids and fostering cultural engagement.”
